Groups

Surrey Young Carers Project has nearly twenty groups groups running on a fortnightly or monthly basis, with around 200 young carers attending them. There are two age group 8-12 & 13+ groups with a trial group for U'8s in the west.

The aim of the groups are:

  • To provide time out from caring responsibilities.

  • To enable young carers meet other young carers in the same or similar situation.

  • To have the opportunity to talk to a member of staff to discuss any concerns and questions.

  • To provide a safe environment in which to explore feeling.

  • To be signposted to other youth leisure facilities.

  • To provide an information and advice service.

  • To have the opportunity to develop skills and interests.

  • To be able to participate in issue based workshops.

Unfortunately not all young carers will get the chance to attend a group, although through rotation we endeavour to ensure that most will.

Part time sessional staff are employed by Surrey Young Carers to help the area support workers to run the groups, all staff are CRB checked and have a wide rang of relevant skills.
